Brackets drawn! And the process in-depth.

All right, so earlier today the brackets were drawn for senbatsu which starts in less than 10 days. And thanks to the draw being simulcasted online, we have a better look as to the draw process. It’s not all random after all, and that makes sense.

So the bracket is broken up into segments for each round. First into halves (X, Y), then each half into halves (A, B, C, D) and then that in half (イ, ロ, ハ, 二, ホ, へ, ト, チ). Each region will walk up and draw first into X or Y. For prefectures which have more than one team qualified, they will automatically be split up into each half so as to not face each other unless both reach the final. 21st century teams draw with their respective region.

The draw was broken up in this order:

  • Kinki & Hokkaido (8)
    • Draws X/Y, then draws イ/ロ/ハ/二/ホ/へ/ト/チ then their actual number
    • Hokkaido draws into a half, but then is free to slot in anywhere
  • Kanto & Tokyo (6)
    • Draws X/Y, then draws イ/ロ/ハ/二/ホ/へ/ト/チ then their actual number
  • Kyushu (4)
    • Draws X/Y, then draws A/B/C/D then their actual number
  • All other regions
    • Shikoku (3)/Chuugoku (3)
    • Tohoku (3)/Toukai (3)
      • Whatever split X/Y the first region draws (1/2, 2/1), the second will have the reverse.
      • If a half (X/Y) has 2 teams from 1 region, they will draw A/B/C/D before drawing slot. Otherwise team is free to slot in anywhere.
    • Hokushinetsu (2)
